Our 2009 Holiday Club for Primary School Children
Clackmannan Town Hall was taken over by around 86 primary school children from Clackmannan and beyond last week, as they enrolled in Warthogs Extension School for “The Potter Project”, the Holiday Club run by members of Clackmannan Church, over five evenings, Monday to Friday 13th to 17th July. The Potter Project was set in the world of “Harry Potter”, and as the youngsters arrived they were led through Diagon Alley’s peculiar shops, they had their ‘fastpass stamped at the ticket office, then passed through the brick wall at Platform 9¾, before being transported to the school’s Great Hall.
After being sorted by
Clackmannan Church’s very own sorting hat into the ancient houses of
Llyfindor, Veritas, Krimsenklaw and Heofenhaus the youngsters enjoyed a
week of music; games, arts and crafts and team games, including “Muggle
Quidditch”. They also had the opportunity to take part in a “Potions
Class”, a series of games using water, gunge, custard, and rice krispies
with the express intention of getting ‘messy’. But Clackmannan’s Potter Project was more than just a week of playing in Harry’s world. Each day, with themes taken from John’s Gospel, the young people encountered spiritual truth through discovering a series of mysterious keys - the Keys of Choice, Signiificance, Greatness, Power, and Truth, as they discovered that just as Harry had to choose between good and evil, they too have a multitude of choices to make, as they learned what it was like to live in the Father’s House. Our final event was the Family Event held in the Town Hall on Sunday 19th July, when a good number of youngsters and their parents joined our normal congregation for a taste of the holiday club week. A great time was had by all. Pictures of our week will be posted soon. Disclaimer: "The Potter Project" is not endorsed by Warner Bros, Bloomsbury Press, or by JK Rowling, or her representatives.
