How do I become a member of Clackmannan Church?

The first step is to come along to church on a Sunday morning and introduce yourself to the minister, (or ask one of the elders to introduce you).  If you have never been a member of The Church of Scotland before, and you feel at home among us, an Enquirers Class (often called a Communicants Class) will be held when the vows of membership will be explained and discussed.  Following that series of classes you will be asked to take these vows in Church and by so doing will be admitted to membership.

If you are already a member of a congregation of the Church of Scotland and want to transfer your membership, ask the Session Clerk or Minister of your current church to send your Certificate of Transference, or "lines" to our Session Clerk, whose name and address are listed on our contacts page.

If you are not sure if you are a member of a church already, or have lost your "lines", please contact the Minister or Session Clerk for advice.

How do I have my child baptised in Clackmannan Church?

Make an appointment with the Minister.  When he meets with you he will discuss the Church's understanding on Baptism, and if appropriate, will arrange a series of evenings when that understanding might be more fully explored.  If, after that course, you still feel that baptism is appropriate for your child, a date for the baptism can then be arranged, and further details of the arrangements can then be explained.  It may be possible to arrange a Service of Blessing, if you feel this might be more suitable to your needs

How do I arrange my wedding?

Make an appointment to speak to the Minister as soon as possible.  He will fix a date with you, and keep you right on all the formalities of such a service, including the arrangements for a wedding rehearsal.  He will also advise you how to arrange the music for the Service with the Church organist.

Can I arrange a funeral in the Church?

In the sad event of a bereavement you should contact one of the local undertakers, who will contact your local parish minister.  If you reside in the area surrounding Clackmannan, that will normally be the minister of this Congregation.  There is nothing to stop you contacting the minister first, if you want.  Between the minister, undertakers, and yourself, a date and time for the funeral will be arranged, and the minister will call, among other things, to discuss the arrangements you want to make for the Service(s).

Is there a fee charged by the Church for weddings and funerals?

There is a small fee for the Organist, for the Church Officer, and for the use of the Church.  Details of the level of these fees, which are dependent on the service required, is available on request.

Can my children come to Sunday-school?

Of course!  Bring them along to the Church any Sunday morning.  You will be asked to complete a registration form for child protection purposes.  After a short time in church at the beginning of the service, the children will be taken to the church hall, and you can collect them from there at approximately 12 noon.  Why not stay in Church, enjoy our Service and wait for them.
